Where I went: Portland, Freeport, Bar Harbor, Camden

For my 33 birthday, I did a solo road trip up the Coast of Maine. I flew into Portland and rented a car via Turo. I have used Turo several times in various cities and I love it - so easy!

My itinerary: Portland (1 night), drive through Freeport en route to Bar Harbor, Bar Harbor (3 nights), Camden (1 night), fly home from Portland.

Portland

I only had a short time in Portland, but I LOVED it. The Highroller is absolutely worth going to. It was my favorite lobster spot of the entire trip. It wasn't difficult to get into as a party of one - one of the best perks of solo travel in my opinion. Via Vecchia was a fabulous dinner spot as well. Highly recommend.

Freeport

I stopped in Freeport on my drive to Bar Harbor. I had lunch at Freeport Oyster Bar and shopped at the L.L. Bean flagship store.

Bar Harbor

Where I stayed: Terramor Outdoor Resort

I was SO excited to go glamping. It honestly exceeded my expectations. My tent was amazing, with a full bathroom, porch and my own firepit station. The main hall had a full bar and restaurant as well. It was true luxury in the woods, the perfect stay for Acadia National Park.

I did take time to see downtown Bar Harbor and had dinner at Geddy's.

My first National Park!

My favorite hike was absolutely the beehive. I got up early and caught sunrise at Otter Cliffs and then went straight to the beehive to beat the crowds. It was perfect - barely anyone on the trail. And the views were insane! I didn't think it was as scary as some say, but I'm not afraid of heights.

I spent time in the Jordan Pond area and went to the infamous Jordan Pond House. Again, the wait for one wasn't bad. But I wouldn't say it was worth the wait, but it was nice to sit down and take a break.

I also loved the bubbles. Nature is so cool.

Camden

Where I stayed: 16 Bay View Hotel

This hotel was so cute and in the heart of town. I actually goofed when I booked and accidentally selected the romance package, so I got myself flowers! A happy accident.

I only stayed in Camden for one night, but what a lovely and charming town! It was a Monday night when I was there, so a lot of things were closed. The highlight of my trip was a sunset sailboat cruise. It was BYOB, so my date was a nice bottle of rose I purchased from a local shop nearby.

On the drive back to Portland, I stopped by the famous Red's Eats Lobster Shack. My timing was perfect, I got there right before they opened and didn't have to wait long. It was great, but I wouldn't have waited in the line that had formed by the time I left!
